Modified PA, PBT and PPS: Reading the Application First

Modified engineering plastics appear in this portfolio as a family of materials that are selected by the part they produce. PA6, PA66, PBT, POM, PPE, PPA, PPS, PC and TPEE each carry their own stated application sets, and those lists are the fastest route into the range.

Read the application list before the data sheet

The stated applications for each modified plastic family are specific enough to identify the part class without any further information. That makes them the right starting point when a new programme is being scoped.

  • Modified PA6 is stated for gas meter housings, air switches and intake manifolds.
  • Modified PA66 is stated for window switch panels and charging gun housings.
  • Modified POM is stated for power tool housings, power strips and DC motor parts.
  • Modified PPE is stated for battery pack high-voltage wiring boards.

Electrical and flame requirements

Where the part carries current or sits inside a connector, the electrical and flame behaviour decides the family. Halogen-free flame retardant systems are described for engineering plastics including PA6, PA66, PBT, PET, PC and ABS, and for general plastics including PE, PP, EVA, EAA and EPR.

The stated applications for the halogen-free flame retardant range include motor coil skeletons, connectors, components of refrigerator temperature controllers, AC contactors, rail transit rotors and fuse box components.

Structural and specialty grades

When the part is structural, the choice moves toward higher performance families. Injection-moulding-grade TPEE and modified PPA and PPS are stated for applications that need higher temperature performance and dimensional stability.

Because the same base polymer can be modified in different directions, two grades with the same family name can have very different properties. Always confirm against the intended part.

How to shortlist

Write down the part, the temperature it sees, the flame rating required and whether it carries current. That combination normally narrows the family to one or two candidates, and the specific grade can then be confirmed against a sample and the processing equipment.
